On Sunday, March 6, 2022 around 1:30 PM, the Royse City Police Department received a report of two vehicles traveling on Westbound IH30 and the occupants were firing weapons at one another. The vehicles involved were a silver, Kia SUV with three male occupants and a burgundy, Dodge Challenger with a male driver and a female passenger.
The investigation showed that the incident started as a traffic altercation between the two drivers who were reported to be passing one another and “brake checking” while traveling west on IH30 just past the Erby Campbell exit. While the silver Kia was in front of the Dodge Challenger, the back seat passenger leaned out of the vehicle with a handgun and started firing at the Dodge Challenger. The driver of the Dodge Challenger who was also armed with a handgun then started firing back at the silver Kia SUV. The two vehicles continued traveling west on IH30 in what was described by witnesses as a rolling gun fight.
No one was injured in the incident but two other vehicles traveling on IH30 were struck by the gunfire. One of the vehicles that was struck in the front bumper by a bullet was driven by a 34-year-old female. The female driver reported as the Dodge Challenger drove past her, she observed the driver firing a handgun out his open passenger window in her direction. In order to keep from being injured, the female driver stated she quickly jerked her steering wheel to the right and ended up driving off the interstate into the grassy median and onto the service road. The two suspect vehicles continued traveling down westbound IH30 and the silver Kia SUV exited in Rockwall and caused a crash on Ridge Road under the IH 30 bridge. Three suspects ran from the location as officers arrived. Two were quickly taken into custody and a third was located near the scene by a Rockwall County Deputy. The Dodge Challenger was stopped by a Rockwall County Deputy at Dalrock and IH 30.
After the investigation was completed, three suspects were arrested and charged with various offenses. The driver of the Dodge Challenger, Kordell Tezeno, was arrested and charged with Deadly Conduct, a third degree Felony, for his actions of firing in the direction of other motorists. The back seat passenger of the silver Kia SUV, Tommy Alvarado, was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a First-Degree Felony, for firing at the occupants of the Dodge Challenger. The driver of the silver Kia SUV, David Bullard, was arrested and charged with Accident Involving a Vehicle which is a Class B Misdemeanor, for his actions of fleeing from the scene of the accident in Rockwall. The incident remains under investigation by the Royse City Police Department.
