Jean Gipson Arnold, age 95, passed away on January 10, 2022. She was born February 14, 1926, in Greenville, Texas to Charles Dewey and Martha Louise Bryant Gipson. Jean graduated from Greenville High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from East Texas State Teachers College, and finally her master’s degree from East Texas State University. She married Roger K. Arnold on May 27, 1947, and they enjoyed 73 years of marriage together. Jean retired from her teaching career at Sulphur Springs High School where she taught, typing, shorthand, and business courses. After retirement, she served as national secretary of the Brown Swiss Cattle Association for several years. Jean was an avid Bridge player in Commerce, Texas belonging to two bridge clubs at one time. Never one to sit idly, Jean crocheted and did beautiful needlework. She and Roger enjoyed traveling and led a very active social life in Commerce. Jean was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Commerce for many years. Up until her death, Jean read the Dallas Morning News every morning working both crossword puzzles to completion. She loved her family and was so proud of their accomplishments. She will be deeply missed.
Jean is survived by her sons: David Arnold of Royse City, Joe Arnold (Viki) of Wills Point, and Dr. John Arnold (Stacy) of Colleyville; granddaughters: Ashley Gray, Kerri McMahon, Grace Arnold, and Claire Arnold; grandsons: Jack Carpenter, Sam Arnold, Gus Arnold, and Brandon Tedder; great-grandchildren: Madison and Cooper Gray, Hannah and Riley McMahon, and Davis, Max, and Andi Jane Carpenter; nieces: Betty Ann Dodd and Lisa Touchstone; and nephew: Mike Mitchell. Jean was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Roger K. Arnold; her parents; daughter-in-law: Glenda Arnold; and granddaughter: Brooke Tedder.
Funeral services will be held 9:00am Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 12:00 to 2:00pm Saturday, January 15, 2022, at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location.
