ROCKWALL, TX – The voters of Rockwall ISD approved both propositions in the $475.8 million bond referendum. The propositions were put on the ballot by the Board of Trustees at the recommendation of the district’s Facilities Bond Committee to manage the fast growth in student population.
“We are grateful the Rockwall ISD community has voted to support our teachers and students by passing this bond referendum,” said Dr. John “JJ” Villarreal, Superintendent of Rockwall ISD. “Approval of this referendum clearly shows our families trust and support our district and are willing to make the investment needed to keep us one of the very best school districts in Texas.” “This $475.8 million bond package developed by residents from across our district will impact every student and every school in Rockwall ISD,” said Jon Bailey, School Board President. “And it will ensure that we continue to maintain classrooms of excellence while still doing right by our taxpayers by keeping our tax rate one of the lowest in North Texas and preparing our school district for the future.”
Passage of the bond referendum will result in an increase of 3/4th of a penny to the RISD tax rate. The tax rate will remain the lowest among nearby school districts. Homeowners 65 years of age and older will see no increase in their property tax rate if they have filed for their senior citizen homestead exemption. Proposition A will provide close to $458.9 million dollars for new schools and renovations and additions to current schools in response to our growth. Projects include 9th-grade campuses, a middle school, a replacement elementary school for Rochell, additional classroom space for 6th graders at existing middle schools which expands capacity and frees up space at our elementary schools, basic maintenance and modern security. New buses will also be purchased to maintain a safe and modern fleet.
Proposition B will provide $16.9 million to update technology, purchase new computers and Chromebooks, provide classroom interactive multimedia displays and enhance wi-fi connectivity for classrooms.
