Recent Rockwall HS graduates, Jada Ayers and Bailey Starr, were chosen to participate in an Internship program over the summer with Medical City Dallas and the Texas Restaurant Association called “Kids Fit Menu.” They were the only two students from the entire DFW area to be chosen to participate. This program offers opportunities for Culinary Arts students to work with restaurants and Medical City Dallas with a focus on creating healthy menu items for children.
Jada was paired with the Original Pancake House and Bailey Starr was paired with Cafe Brazil. They were tasked with learning how the kitchen worked, learning about the menu, and then focused on creating healthy items for the children’s menu.
Each student worked directly with restaurant staff, the owners and dieticians from Medical City Dallas to complete this project.
The recipes that both students created will be on the menu at each restaurant in the upcoming months. Both students earned a $1,500 scholarship
Jada will be attending Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Austin and Bailey Starr will be attending Texas Tech, majoring in Restaurant, Hotel and Hospitality Management.
