Marlene Rita (Rief) Brennecke, age 85, of Rockwall, TX, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021. She was born September 24, 1935, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Josef and Emma Rief.
Marlene attended the University of Cincinnati, where she was a member of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Design in 1958.
She married Norman Robert Brennecke of St. Louis, MO, October 18, 1958, in Cincinnati, and he survives. Also surviving are sons: David and Douglas; three grandchildren: Nicole, Jennifer, and Collin; and one great grandchild: Bennett.
Marlene was a creative force throughout her life, donating commercial artwork to local hospitals, schools, symphony groups, and retirement communities. She was a pianist, Cub Scout den mother, and organizer of school balloon launches. A 38-year resident of Rockwall, she was an active contributor to the Rockwall County Newcomer’s Club. An avid fan of mystery novels, jigsaw puzzles, and Sudoku, she also loved the musical marches of John Philip Sousa.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 25, 2021, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Rd, Rockwall, TX, with Fr. Seán Martin officiating. Friends and family are welcome to join the family for a Celebration of Life at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location following the Memorial Mass.
