Arthur Woodfin Hendon, age 92, of Rockwall, TX, passed away on August 28, 2020. He was born on March 26, 1928, near Forreston, TX, to Arthur M. Hendon and Ina Mae (Calvert) Hendon. He completed high school studies at Forreston in 1945. After one semester at North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, Texas, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on February 14, 1946, and received an Honorable Discharge on June 30, 1947, as a MoMM 3/C. His education resumed at North Texas Agricultural College, Arlington, TX, and earned an Associate in Science degree in May 1949. He continued his studies in the summer of 1949 at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX, and then transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Geology in May 1951.
He completed thirty years of service in the oil & gas industry that involved fieldwork on rigs, routine and research in laboratories, field geology, well completions, drilling of wildcats, and storing data on a mainframe computer.
Personal accomplishments included H.S. basketball captain, H.S. Basketball All-District team, President of a 4 H club, Eagle Scout, President of Geology Club, Elder in the Presbyterian Church, Private Pilot, Squadron Commander of Civil Air Patrol’s Black Sheep Squadron, retired from the Civil Air Patrol as a Lt. Col. He was given the rank of Admiral in the Texas Navy on July 1, 2013 by Governor Rick Perry.
Past organizations include The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Permian Basin Water Flood Association (PBWFA), Quality Control (ASQC) and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
Writing activities included co-authoring two professional papers: “Fluid Flow in Secondary Recovery Programs” and “Permeability, Its Validity and Meaning” in a research laboratory. Additional writing includes authoring nine genealogical books on several families and a Quality Control Manual for a local manufacturer. He wrote and published twenty easy-to-read books (Texas Classics Series} that were designed to educate, inform, enlighten and entertain readers.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Jeanne B. (m. 1948-2001); .second wife: Beverly L. (m.2002-2016).
Arthur is survived by his children: Bradford Hendon of Wylie, TX, Diane Parker of Jacksonville, FL, Julia Hendon of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Hendon and wife Fay of Allen, TX, and stepson, Kenneth Williams and wife Nancy of Claremore, OK; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Parker, Cheryl Parramore, Andrew Parker, Victoria Ashley, Lauren Hendon, Caitlin Demura, Michelle Gamboa; and several great-grandchildren.
