David Allen Rains was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2020. Born August 8, 1955, in Bridgeport, TX, to Calvin and Jannette Rains, he graduated with Honors from San Houston State University with a BS in Psychology. David fought drug addiction in his youth that resulted in his incarceration, during which he was led to the Lord by Chaplain Picket. When he was released, he never touched drugs or alcohol again, and dedicated his life to serving his Lord, his family, and his fellow man. He built numerous successful businesses servicing the commercial finance industry and investing in commercial real estate.
David was a very positive and loving person with a quick wit and sharp humor. He had a personality that was bigger than life, and a great big laugh that could shake the walls. He was always willing to help others and was generous with both his time and resources. David was an excellent friend and trusted mentor to many in the commercial finance industry, but his passion was helping men who have been incarcerated become productive citizens through the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. He also donated his time and resources to the Rockwall Rotary Club, the American Factoring Association, and his local church.
David is survived by his beloved wife: Billie; sons: Christopher Rains and Billy Jack Ford; daughters: Jimmie Ford and Chelsey Pollard; seven grandchildren: Michael, Elizabeth and Alexis Griffin, Alyssa and Alana Hallett, Alyssa Rains and, the most recent joy of his life, Ryker Allen Rains. David is also survived by his only sibling: Debra Zukonik; numerous nieces and nephews; and several beloved cousins.
Services will be held at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church, 3018 N. Beltline Road, Sunnyvale, TX, at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Memorial Park, 4118 Samuell Blvd in Dallas. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00am. The family asks that you please come prepared to wear a mask to protect everyone in attendance. We also ask that you consider donations to The Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP) in lieu of flowers. Flowers wilt, but the seeds that are planted at PEP change lives.
