Paul Hamm, age 74, passed away at home on June 27, 2020. He was born June 15, 1946, in Dallas, TX, to Royal Henry Hamm and Ethel Gertrude (Boren) Hamm. A resident of the Rockwall area for 43 years, Paul was an educator and administrator in Rockwall Independent School District until his retirement in 2005 although he remained a part of the school system as a substitute teacher until 2015. Paul was an ardent supporter of the Rockwall Yellowjackets! In addition to his career in education, Paul served in the United States Navy in the mid-sixties, working on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Paul was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockwall where he enjoyed leading Bible studies, teaching small groups, writing church history, and singing in the Chancel Choir which he loved so very much.
Paul was passionate about his family and his hobbies. Paul completed his goal of visiting – not just traveling through, but visiting – all 50 states in August of 2019. He traveled extensively while in the Navy, and he planned many vacations for he and Sherry both in the United States and abroad. Paul’s father, cousins, aunts, and uncles loved music, and he did as well. He played a number of stringed instruments and enjoyed both performing and listening to music. His musical tastes were varied, and he held an appreciation for music and art. Paul loved reading and writing and wrote numerous novels and short stories. He also enjoyed astronomy, genealogy, and model trains.
Paul was an almost-daily volunteer at Rockwall County Helping Hands and enjoyed volunteering at the Rockwall County Library, as well as serving as an American Red Cross volunteer.
Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sherry Hamm. She shared his love for our Lord, his passion for education, and his many travels. He is survived by daughters: Holly Koch and husband Kory, Jenny Hover and husband John, and Naomi Luce and husband Scott; grandchildren: Nora, Samuel and Benjamin Koch, Alexander and Owen Hover, and Elijah Paul and Sofia Luce; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
