According to the Department of State Health Services Contact tracing is a method used to find and follow up with people who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
People who were around this individual are called contacts. By tracing the contacts of COVID-19 cases, having them self-isolate, if necessary, and testing, when appropriate, we can reduce the spread of coronavirus.
As part of this process, DSHS has created a new app where you can self-report exposure directly to DSHS. You can learn more about the app and access it using the link below.
DSHS developed a simple online app called Texas Health Trace so you can check your symptoms, report exposure to COVID-19, and view test collection sites around the state.
You can also ask a question and find other types of support within the app like:
- How to get tested and where
- What to do if you test positive
- How to get food during self-isolation
Your personal information is confidential and will be used solely for public health. Confidential information obtained by DSHS is never made public.
The goal of contact tracing is to slow and contain the spread of COVID-19 in the community. By participating and doing your part, you can help keep your loved ones and people you know from getting sick.
Texans can find more information about how to help stop the spread on Texas Health Trace, which will soon also be available in Spanish. You will need a valid email to register and use the app.
You can find more information about the app here.
