Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens issued a letter to the community this morning about the incident.
Dear Brave Nation families,
I want to make you aware that earlier today a CHS student was arrested outside of the building after making a verbal threat of violence against the school. I would like to applaud the quick response of our staff who took immediate action to notify our CISD Police Department. The student was promptly arrested without incident. The student was not in possession of a weapon, however any threat of violence against a student, staff or school building will not be tolerated. As I have said before, we are unapologetic about our commitment to take appropriate legal measures to ensure the safety of our schools.
We understand threats can be unsettling for students and parents alike. Please take this opportunity to speak with your children about their role in school safety. If anyone notices any suspicious or threatening behavior, they should report it to a teacher or administrator. It will immediately be investigated, and, if appropriate, our CISD Police Department will take action. Together, we can keep our students safe so they can focus on learning.
Please know that the safety and well-being of our Braves will always be our highest priority.
Dr. Roosevelt Nivens
CISD Superintendent
