Alan Lee Bates Obituary

Alan Lee Bates of Plano, TX, passed away on January 1, 2020, at the age of 61. He was born May 13, 1958, in Oak Cliff, TX, to John W. Bates, Sr. and Doris Jeanette (Gilley) Bates. Alan graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1976. He loved to travel; play golf and tennis (he played varsity tennis in high school and still played to this day). He was an avid reader with a passion for history. Alan was a reserved man of great intellect and an excellent conversationalist with a dry sense of humor. To those closest to him he was the best friend you could ever hope for and always the most fun person in the room. He will be deeply missed.

Alan is survived by his son: Cuyler Bates of Dallas, TX; mother: Jean Bates of Garland, TX; sisters: Jerie Bates of Garland, TX, and Barbara Bates Ziemer and husband Greg of Rockwall, TX; and niece and nephew: Shea Ziemer and Jonathan Ziemer. He was preceded in death by his father: John W. Bates, Sr.; and brother: John W. Bates, Jr.

A Gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location. Immediately following the gathering, a Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Commodore Room at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront, 2055 Summer Lee Dr., Rockwall, TX 75032.
