Several elementary schools as well as Utley Middle School recently traveled to the Rockwall County Library to see author Nathan Hale. Hale is an author/illustrator most known for his best-selling Hazardous Tales series which according to his website, present “thrilling, daring, and downright gruesome stories from American history.” He tells the stories with humor, but also gives the reader facts about little known people and events in American history.
Students were engaged from the moment they walked in the room as he began drawing even as students were being seated. He spoke for a few minutes about life as an author, but spent the majority of his time telling/drawing a story about the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
One 6th grade student even remarked that he didn’t really like history before, but the way Hale presented it made him want to learn more.
Thank you to the Rockwall County Library for bringing Nathan Hale to Rockwall and inviting the schools to be a part of it.
