Reinhardt ES second graders recently wrapped up their non-fiction unit with a unique activity in the library, where Dr. Dewey (aka librarian, Mrs. Figert), invited the second graders to help her with a recent “patient” who was having trouble understanding the importance of text features when reading non-fiction texts.
Students were given a list of text features and were asked to “surgically” remove them from non-fiction books that had been donated for the activity.
They then pasted them into their doctor’s notes and explained how these features can help you become a better reader of non-fiction.
What a fun and engaging way to wrap up a unit!
