We’re still a month away from opening day at the State Fair of Texas, but the festivities are already underway! The 15th Annual Big Tex Choice Awards took place this weekend. A panel of judges tasted the ten finalists and then chose three winners for the following categories: Best Taste (savory), Best Taste (sweet), and Most Creative.
The winners in each category were as follows:
Best Taste (savory) – Ruth’s Stuffed Fried Mexi-Cone by Ruth Hauntz: slow-cooked barbacoa served in an ice cream cone-shaped tortilla shell with black beans and cilantro-lime rice. It is topped with pico de gallo, queso fresco, and homemade salsa verde.
